IV sedation is one of the many types of conscious sedation that we offer at our practice for patients in Northville, Plymouth, West Bloomfield, Bloomfield Hills, Wixom, Novi, Salem, Worden, Farmington and Livonia, Michigan. What this means is that patients receiving IV sedation will stay awake throughout their treatment, allowing them to respond to our team and follow any important safety instructions if needed. Our dentists will help each patient decide which type of conscious sedation is right for them based on their medical history, dental needs, level of anxiety in the dental office and other important information.

Unlike oral conscious sedation, IV sedation is administered directly into your bloodstream, intravenously, to offer quick-acting relaxation. IV sedation is considered extremely safe, but we will have team members monitoring you throughout treatment regardless to ensure there are no unexpected negative reactions to the medication. Though some patients remember small details from their appointment, many feel as if they have slept through their procedure.

Patients receiving IV sedation must have family member or friend ready to drive them home after their appointment, and we recommend keeping someone nearby for the first few hours following treatment until the medication has worn off completely. We recommend you bring someone with you who can drive you home after your appointment, and if possible, have someone remain with you for a few hours until the effects of the medication have worn off.
